ISRO mission to Mars: India’s Rs 450-crore MOM Mangalyaan spends 1000 earth days in Martian orbit

Mars orbital mission (MOM) – Mangalyaan, the interplanetary mission of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has successfully completed 1,000 Earth days in orbit around the red planet on Monday.

The mission of ISRO completed 1,000 days land much beyond its designed six-month shelf life.

On November 5, 2013, the inexpensive Mars spacecraft in India was launched on board PSLV-C25 to launch an expandable system.

On September 24, 2014, the MOM has hit the March orbit on the first attempt and broke into an elite club.

“The full MOM 1000 earth days in its orbit, today (June 19, 2017) beyond its designed life span of six months, 1000 earth days corresponds to 973.24 in March of Soils (Mars solar day) and MOM achieves 388 Orbits, “ISRO said.

ISRO said the satellite works well and continues to work as expected. He also said that the scientific analysis of the data sent by the Mars Orbiter probe is under way.

Citing excess fuel as a reason, ISRO announced in March 2015 for the first time that the life of the spacecraft was extended for six months. Later, in June 2015, its president as Kiran Kumar said he did not have enough fuel to last “many years”.

About the mission of the Mars Orbiter:

The MOM Rs 450 crore mission aims to study the composition of the surface of Mars and minerals and analyze its methane atmosphere, an indicator of life on the red planet.

The MOM has five scientific instruments: the Lyman alpha photometer (LAP), methane sensor for Mars (MSM), the Neutral Mars Analyzer (MENCA), the Mars Color Camera (MCC) and the Thermal Infrared Spectrometer .

ISRO said that a useful scientific load on the March MOM camera called Color took 715 images so far. 2 June 2015-2 July 2015, MOM has gone through a communication “blackout” during its journey, as a result of the combination of solar energy.

From May 18 to 30, 2016, he experienced the “white” geometry (when the Earth is between the Sun and Mars and too much sunlight it can make it impossible to communicate with the Earth).

To avoid an impending long eclipse for the satellite, an orbital maneuver was also performed on a MOM spacecraft. Announcement of MOM Opportunity Program (OA) for researchers in the country to use MOM data for R & D were also launched by ISRO.
